a test that gives confidence

The industry of calibration and metrology has needed a standard certification test for a long time now. Our goal was to set out to develop an exam that can help define what we expect out of the technicians in the field, we wanted to create a test that gives confidence. When we say a test that gives confidence we are saying how confident are you in your technician’s knowledge? How confident are you in your calibration provider’s knowledge? How confident are you in your own knowledge?

The goal of this test is to be the entry point into the field of metrology and calibration, this is the first step in the system.

The CMT™ test consists of 100 questions generated out of a bank of questions developed in the following knowledge areas:

  • General Metrology

  • Electronics

  • Temperature

  • Pressure

  • Force and Torque

  • Dimensional

  • Mass

  • General Safety

The test will have questions out of each of the knowledge areas described and require a minimum score of 80% to pass the exam. The intent of the exam is to show competency in areas that directly contribute to calibration in real applications.

Built from decades of experience

Creating a standard test is not something that we take lightly and we wanted to make sure we had the right team to push forward.

The existing curriculums from Sine and the military programs, along with the written standards and a comprehensive job task analysis, were the blueprints for the creation of this exam. The experience of the test building team and the careful eye of the exam board is what takes it to the next level.

To stay in line with accreditation requirements, this test could not be written by the staff of Sine Calibration School, this is why we created a test building team and exam board of independent experts in the field of metrology and calibration. This maintains the fairness of the test and gives a wide range of perspectives toward the needs of the field.
